Contrail

Terms of Use

The terms that apply when you use the Contrail iPhone app and the perretlabs.com website from Perret Labs LLC.

Last updated

Effective date: October 10, 2026

These Terms of Use (“Terms”) are an agreement between you and Perret Labs LLC (“Perret Labs”, “we”, “us”), a Virginia limited liability company. They apply to Contrail, our iPhone golf app (to be listed on the App Store as “Contrail Golf”), and to our website, perretlabs.com (together, the “Services”).

Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information. Please read it alongside these Terms.

1. Accepting these Terms

By using the Services, you agree to these Terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the Services.

2. Who can use Contrail

You must be at least 13 years old to use Contrail. If you are under 18, or under the age of majority where you live, you may use Contrail only with the permission of a parent or guardian who agrees to these Terms on your behalf.

3. Your account

  • Invite-only for now. Creating an account currently requires an invite. We may change how sign-up works, and we may decline to create an account.
  • Keep it accurate. Please give us accurate account information and keep it up to date.
  • Keep it secure. Keep your sign-in details to yourself. You are responsible for what happens under your account. If you think someone else has access to it, email support@perretlabs.com.
  • One person per account. Don’t share your account or create one for someone else without their permission.

4. Using the Services responsibly

When you use the Services, please don’t:

  • break the law, or help anyone else to;
  • harass, threaten, bully or impersonate anyone;
  • post content that is hateful, sexually explicit, violent, misleading or that infringes someone else’s rights;
  • post other people’s personal information without their permission;
  • send spam, or misuse comments, reactions, follows, invites or leaderboards (for example, by entering made-up shots to top a leaderboard);
  • try to get into accounts or systems you aren’t allowed to access, or interfere with how the Services work;
  • copy, scrape, reverse engineer or resell the Services, except where the law allows it.

5. Your content in the Clubhouse

The Clubhouse lets you share rounds and shots, post comments and reactions, and follow other golfers. Anything you post or share there is “your content”.

  • You own your content. We don’t claim ownership of it.
  • The permission you give us. You give Perret Labs a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to store, copy, display and transmit your content, only to run the Services, and to show your content to the people allowed to see it under your visibility settings (Everyone, Followers or only you). This license ends when your content is deleted from the Services, except for copies others have already made (for example, a picture you shared outside Contrail) and copies we must keep by law.
  • You’re responsible for your content. Only post content you have the right to share.
  • Reporting and blocking. You can report content or users that break these Terms, and you can block other users.
  • Our right to act. We may remove content, or limit or suspend accounts, that we reasonably believe break these Terms or put others at risk. We don’t review everything posted, and we aren’t responsible for content posted by other users.

6. Distances and stats are estimates

Contrail is made for practice and enjoyment. Distances, GPS measurements, carry figures, the “Typical flight” arc and other stats in Contrail are estimates. They may be affected by things like GPS signal, your device, your launch monitor and conditions on the course.

  • Not for official use. Don’t use Contrail’s figures for official handicap purposes or in competition, or where the rules of a competition don’t allow them.
  • Not for safety. Don’t rely on Contrail’s distances or maps for your safety or anyone else’s.
  • Stay aware on the course. Look up from your phone before you hit, walk or drive. Watch for other golfers, carts and hazards, follow the course’s rules, and never use your phone while driving a cart.

7. Launch monitors and other hardware

Contrail works with the Garmin Approach R10 launch monitor over Bluetooth. The Garmin Approach R10 is a third-party product made and supported by Garmin, under Garmin’s own terms. Garmin does not endorse Contrail, and our integration with it is independent. We aren’t responsible for third-party hardware, how it performs, or its availability.

8. Third-party services and data

Contrail relies on services and data from others, including Apple MapKit for maps, the US Geological Survey (USGS) National Map for some course imagery, and OpenStreetMap for course data (© OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database License). These are provided by third parties under their own terms. They may contain errors or change, and we don’t control them.

9. Our intellectual property

The Services, including the Contrail app, its design, software, graphics and the Contrail name and icon, belong to Perret Labs or its licensors. Subject to these Terms, we give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the Contrail app on Apple devices you own or control, for your own non-commercial use. We keep all rights we don’t expressly give you.

10. Feedback

We welcome your ideas. If you send us feedback or suggestions, we may use them without any obligation to you.

11. If you got Contrail from the App Store

Apple’s Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the “Standard EULA”) applies to your use of the Contrail app, together with these Terms. You and we also acknowledge that:

  • These Terms are between you and Perret Labs only, not Apple. Perret Labs, not Apple, is solely responsible for Contrail and its content.
  • Your license to use Contrail is limited to Apple-branded products that you own or control, as permitted by the Usage Rules in Apple’s Media Services Terms and Conditions.
  • Apple has no obligation to provide any maintenance or support for Contrail.
  • If Contrail fails to meet any warranty that applies to it, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price, if any, that you paid for it. To the maximum extent the law allows, Apple has no other warranty obligation for Contrail.
  • Perret Labs, not Apple, is responsible for handling any claims relating to Contrail or your use of it, including product liability claims, claims that Contrail fails to meet a legal or regulatory requirement, and claims under consumer protection, privacy or similar laws.
  • If anyone claims that Contrail, or your use of it, infringes their intellectual property rights, Perret Labs, not Apple, is responsible for investigating, defending, settling and discharging that claim.
  • You confirm that you are not located in a country subject to a US government embargo, or designated by the US government as a “terrorist supporting” country, and that you are not on any US government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
  • You must comply with any third-party terms that apply when using Contrail (for example, your mobile carrier’s terms).
  • Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms. Once you accept these Terms, Apple has the right to enforce them against you as a third-party beneficiary.

Questions, complaints or claims about Contrail should be sent to Perret Labs at support@perretlabs.com.

12. Ending your use

You can stop using the Services at any time, and you can delete your account in the app at Settings → Account → Delete account. See Delete your Contrail account.

We may suspend or end your access to the Services if you break these Terms, if we need to in order to protect other users or comply with the law, or if we stop offering the Services. Sections 5 (the parts about our right to act), 6, and 9 to 17 continue to apply after your access ends.

13. No warranty

We work hard on Contrail, but the Services are provided “as is” and “as available”. To the fullest extent the law allows, we make no warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement. We don’t promise that the Services will always be available, error-free or secure, or that any distance, measurement or stat will be accurate.

14. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows:

  • Perret Labs will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits or goodwill, arising out of or relating to the Services or these Terms.
  • Our total liability for any claim arising out of or relating to the Services or these Terms is limited to the amount, if any, that you paid us for Contrail.

Some places don’t allow certain warranties or liabilities to be excluded or limited, so some of the above may not apply to you. Nothing in these Terms limits rights you have that the law says can’t be limited.

15. Indemnity

If someone brings a claim against Perret Labs because of content you posted or your breach of these Terms, you agree to cover the reasonable losses and costs (including reasonable legal fees) that result, to the extent the law allows.

16. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute relating to these Terms or the Services will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Virginia, and you and we agree to those courts’ jurisdiction, unless the law where you live requires otherwise.

17. General

  • Changes to these Terms. We may update these Terms as the Services change. When we do, we will change the date at the top of this page. If a change is significant, we will take reasonable steps to tell you, for example in the app or by email. If you keep using the Services after a change takes effect, you accept the updated Terms.
  • Entire agreement. These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy (and Apple’s Standard EULA, where it applies), are the whole agreement between you and us about the Services.
  • Severability. If any part of these Terms can’t be enforced, the rest still applies.
  • No waiver. If we don’t enforce part of these Terms straight away, we can still enforce it later.
  • Transfer. You may not transfer your rights under these Terms. We may transfer ours, for example as part of a reorganization or sale of our business.
