What is Contrail?

Contrail is an iPhone golf app from Perret Labs. With a launch monitor, it draws a broadcast-style shot tracer across a 3D satellite view of the hole right after you hit, landing where your ball came down, with your shot stats alongside. When it arrives on the App Store, look for “Contrail Golf”.

When will it launch?

Contrail is coming soon to iPhone. We haven’t announced a date yet, so sign up for launch news and we’ll let you know when it’s available.

Do I need an invite?

For now, yes. Creating an account currently requires an invite. Sign up for launch news and we’ll let you know when Contrail is ready. See the Terms of Use.

Do I need a launch monitor?

No. In GPS mode, you hit, walk to your ball and tap At my ball, and Contrail measures how far it went, with an honest ± margin. If you’re in a cart, or can see your ball but can’t reach it, you can use Mark on map instead.

Which launch monitor works?

Contrail works with the Garmin Approach R10, connected over Bluetooth, and shots keep arriving even with your phone locked. Our integration is independent: Garmin does not endorse Contrail.

How accurate is it?

In GPS mode, every measured distance shows its ± margin, so you can see how precise each reading is. With a launch monitor, carry is computed from the launch data it records, and roll-out is shown as an estimate. The pale “Typical flight” arc in GPS mode is clearly labeled as an estimate and never counted in your stats.

Can I use Contrail in a competition or for my handicap?

No. Contrail’s figures are for practice and enjoyment. Don’t use them for official handicap purposes or in competition, or where a competition’s rules don’t allow them. See the Terms of Use.

Does it work offline?

Every shot is saved on your iPhone first and syncs to your account later, when you’re online. Satellite map imagery needs a connection, unless imagery for the course has already been loaded.

How do I delete my account?

In the app, go to Settings → Account → Delete account. If you can’t access the app, email support@perretlabs.com from the address on your account. See the full steps.

How do I export my data?

You can export your shots from the app at any time, as CSV, GeoJSON or GPX files. They’re yours to keep.

Is my location tracked all the time?

No. Contrail asks for location access “While Using” only, never “Always”, and uses it during a round to measure your shots. It keeps working while your phone is locked only while a round is in progress, and stops when the round ends. Read our Privacy Policy.

Is there an Android or Apple Watch version?

Not at this time. Contrail is an iPhone app; there’s no Android, Apple Watch or iPad version.

Which iPhones are supported?

Contrail requires an iPhone running iOS 26 or later.

Does Contrail show ads or track me?

No. Contrail has no ads, doesn’t track you across apps or websites, and uses no analytics or crash-reporting tools. We don’t sell or share your personal data. Read our Privacy Policy.
